Another great preventative maintenance item for any 986 or 996 is this water pump upgrade kit with a metal impeller. 986 and 996 models were originally equipped with water pumps that contained plastic impellers that disintegrate with age. The blades can break away and lodge in the cylinder head or engine, causing leaks and overheating. The upgrade kit addresses the water pump issue with a motorsport grade water pump that includes a metal impeller. It also contains a low temperature thermostat for warmer climates, track use and to reduce engine temperatures for greater reliability. The kit is topped off with the proper gaskets and a durable motorsport grade poly ribbed belt that supplies more uniform tension, has greater resistance to heat, oil, dust and provides quieter operation.
