Description
BMC Sport Air Filters were originally developed in association with the Ferrari F1 team. BMC started producing their filters in 1973 and is one of the most recognized brands in the European automotive industry, they are also a member of the VDAT German Tuning Association.OEM filters only require a total particle filtration efficiency up to a minimum size of 10 microns. OEM air filters function primarily to protect the engine, so they are cost effectively produced in paper. Paper filters have high resistance to airflow that reduces the inlet pressure and consequently engine performance.
BMC filtration systems yield more engine performance, both in terms of power and torque without compromising reliability. A BMC sport filter contains an outer epoxy coated alloy mesh with internal layers of cotton gauze that have been immersed in a low viscosity oil. That technique ensures protection from fuel fumes and from oxidation due to humidity in the air. It also ensures superior air permeability and more efficient filtration down to 7 microns. BMC carries out filtration tests in accordance with the international standards for filtering (ISO 5011). BMC Air Filters have a 98.5% filtering efficiency in respect to this standard. Simply put, OEM and Aftermarket dry air filters do not offer as much flow and engine protection a BMC.
Sold Individually. 1 Necessary Per Car.
Please note: A BMC sport filter is a direct replacement for the factory air filter. Also, there is a lot of misinformation about sport filters fouling mass air flow sensors (MAF's). In the manufacturing process the exact amount of oil is used, and we have never experienced this with a new filter since we opened in 1984. In our experience, fouled MAF's are attributed to individuals over oiling their filters after cleaning. In regards to Aftermarket Dry vs. BMC Filters, in our opinion it is more important to protect your engine than to put confidence into marketing around a MAF sensor.
